Identification
Body length of 195 cm, shoulder height of 120 cm, weight of 275 kg. Fairly small curved horns. Long face with black forehead, black mane. Very short hairs. Grey coloration with black stripes on neck and long white hairs under neck.
Range and habitat
The subspecies occurs in eastern Africa, from South Kenya to North Tanzania, sometimes north to the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Species found from south Angola and south Kenya to South Africa. Lives in savannas, seasonally flooded grasslands, wooded bushlands.

Status : This species remains common in its range but suffers from competition with domestic cattle and from habitat degradation.
