Identification
Smallest serow-species, reaching 1.14 m in length, 65 cm in shoulder height and a weight of 30 kg. Unmistakable species with no mane and very small horns. Coloration is rufous to dark brown with beige markings on throat. Darker legs.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia and is endemic to the Island of Taiwan, occurring mostly in central and eastern parts of the country. Lives in steep montane areas with coniferous and mixed forests.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is legally protected in Taiwan but has been declining in recent years due to agricultural practices and development of human settlements.
