Identification
Body length of 170 cm, shoulder height of 104 cm, weight of 108 kg. Hair coloration beige-brown, darker for males. Black legs with white markings. Subspecies with very long broadly twisted horns, growing vertically and laterally.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in north-east Afghanistan, north Pakistan and north India. Species also found in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Occurs in open forested mountain areas and shrublands, from 600 to 3600 m.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : This species has small isolated populations, many of them are now protected and slightly increasing. When unprotected, the species is overhunted.
