Identification
Up to 220 cm in length, 140 cm in shoulder height and weight of 350 kg. Curved horns facing slightly upward. Large head, huge body with long legs. Small tail. Fur is light golden-yellow with whitish-yellow head. Golden hairs on male’s neck.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia and is endemic to central-eastern China, being found in the Quinling range in south Shaanxi province. Lives in mixed conifer forests, meadows with salt-lick sites, from 1000 to 3000 m.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species’ populations are less than 5000. Threatened by loss of habitat and disturbance.
