Identification
Adults can grow to a body length of 150 cm, shoulder height of 70 cm and weight less than 200 kg. Smaller than lowland anoa with shorter and thinner horns. Long and furry body hairs, dark to light brown. White markings on neck.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-east Asia and is endemic to Sulawesi island, in western Indonesia. Lives in primary, secondary and swamp forests, up to 2300 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is an island endemic and most of its populations are isolated and comprise no more than 250 mature specimens. Vulnerable to habitat loss.
