Identification
Body length of 25 cm, tail length of 10 cm, weight of 140 g. Small ground squirrel with fairly short bushy tail. Dark brown fur becoming brighter on head, and limbs. White horizontal line on flanks, white eye-ring, clear belly.
Range and habitat
The species is found in South-west USA in Arizona and New Mexico and also in north-west Mexico, in the state of Sonora. Mostly found in lowland desertic habitats with rocks, cactus and shrubs.

CITES : Not listed
Status : This species isn’t known to face any threats apart from accidental trapping. It’s relatively uncommon throughout its range.
