Identification
Body length of 50 cm for a tail length of more than 60 cm and a weight around 6.6 kg for big males. Fur completely grizzled with much darker, nearly black belly and breast and greyer back. Bare black skin on face. This species can be told from the other silvered langurs by its long straight whiskers.
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Peninsular Malaysia and found on a narrow coastline band in western Malaysia from south Perlis to Johor states. It lives mostly in mangrove forests, riparian forests and suburban parks near water bodies.
Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is still numerous and can even be found near or in big cities such as Kuala Lumpur. However it needs some kind of forest cover near water and deforestation has caused local declines throughout the species’ range.
