Identification
Body length of 65 cm, tail length of 85 cm, weight of 9 kg. Pelage mostly dark ashy-grey, turning lighter on rump and darker on limbs. White tail, purplish-black skin on face, black eye-ring. Pinkish-brown grey cap.
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Sri Lanka. This subspecies is found in western Sri Lanka, north of the Kalu Ganga. Lives in lowland rainforests, urban gardens and plantations, to 1000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : This subspecies is now one of the most threatened primates in Sri Lanka. It is extremely threatened by habitat loss and persecution.
