Identification
The species grows to 68 cm in length for a weight of 12 kg. Males bigger than females and with bigger cheek tufts. Black pelage with white hairs on rump and parts of belly. Large cheek tufts grey to brown-black in color.
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Indonesia, being endemic to Sulawesi and found in most of the central parts of the island. Also occurs on Togian Island. Lives in primary and secondary hilly rainforests, from 400 to 2500 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is threatened by deforestation in its entire range. Most of its forested habitat is being cut down to give way to plantations.
