Identification
Body length of 66 cm, tail length of 92 cm, weight of 12.6 kg. Most of fur is black with small white band on forehead, conspicuous white hair tufts on cheeks and on shoulders. This subspecies has longer mantle and only last third of tail white.
Range and habitat
The species occurs from DR Congo to Uganda and Tanzania, south to north Mozambique and north Angola. Subspecies found in Kenya and Tanzania. Lives in tropical forests, both in lowlands and mountains, up to 4000 m.

Status : This species remains widespread and common in many parts of its range. Some subspecies highly threatened because of deforestation and hunting.
