Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 33 cm, tail length of 42 cm for a weight up to 600 g. Legs, breast, first third of flanks and nape white, rest of pelage dark brown becoming almost black on tail. Naked head with black skin.
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to north-central Brazil, in a small area from Rio Solimoes to Rio Negro, Rio Urubu and Rio Cuieiras. Lives in primary and secondary tropical forests on dry land, rarely in flooded areas.

IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is alarmingly declining because of competition with more adaptable S. midas and expansion of Manaus city, leading to habitat loss.
