Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 23 cm, tail length of 33 cm and weight of 225 g. Its fur is silvery grey with yellowish tinge on limbs, dark ringed tail. Breast, nape and head black with silvery cheeks and black ear-tufts ending in pencils.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America and is endemic to Brazil, being found in south-central and central eastern parts of the country. Lives in all kinds of dry and semi-humid open forests and woodlands.

Status : This species is relatively common and can adapt to degraded habitats. It has gone through local declines recently. Occurs in protected areas.
