Identification
Body length of 21 cm, tail length of 31 cm and a weight of 322 g. Tail is dark grey with white rings. Body fur is light grey with faint white stripes on back. Head is black with white forehead, clear face and two large white hair tufts near ears.
Range and habitat
This species is endemic to north-eastern Brazil and found from Maranhao state to north-east Tocantins and north Bahia. Lives in coastal Atlantic forests, woodlands and savanna forests, mangroves.

Status : The species has been heavily exploited for pet trade in the past. Many of its populations are declining because of overexploitation and habitat loss.
