Notes : 2 subspecies known.
Identification
Body length of 65 cm for a weight of 9 kg. Male is completely black with two thin white eyebrow markings and light silvery chin tuft. Female beige with longer fur, dark chest and chin. Clear crown and broad white facial mask.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in South East Asia, in Yunnan (China) around Mt Gaoligong and in Myanmar between Irrawady-Nmai Kha and Salween rivers. Lives in primary tropical and subtropical rainforest, up to 2700 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : This species is highly endangered as most of its populations are kept outside protected areas and are still heavily hunted for food and medicine.
