Identification
63 cm body length, tail length is 86 cm, weight up to 9.4 kg. Black face with dark hair crown, head dark brown. Body fur is beige-brown to reddish-brown. Black limbs and dark brown to black tail. Subspecies grayer with white belly.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is found from east Mexico to Guatemala and Honduras, the species occurs from central-eastern Mexico to south Panama. Lives in forests (primary, secondary, deciduous) and mangroves.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is endangered by habitat fragmentation and clearing. Capture of juveniles for local trade is also a problem. Occurs in protected areas.
