Identification
63 cm body length, tail length is 86 cm, weight up to 9.4 kg. Black face with dark hair crown, head dark brown. Body fur is beige-brown to reddish-brown. Black limbs and dark brown to black tail. This subspecies is brighter-colored.
Range and habitat
This subspecies is found from Central Costa Rica to Panama, the species occurs from central-eastern Mexico to south Panama. Lives in forests (primary, secondary, deciduous) and mangroves.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is endangered by habitat fragmentation and clearing. Capture of juveniles for local trade is also a problem. Occurs in protected areas.
