Identification
64 cm body length, tail length is 86 cm, weight up to 8.9 kg. For this subspecies, the fur is glossy black with a brown tinge on forehead. Its genital area is reddish. Few golden to silvery hairs around cheeks and muzzle. Face is mostly black.
Range and habitat
This subspecies is found from Eastern Panama to west and south-west Colombia. The species also occurs in north-west Ecuador. Lives in lowland and lower montane primary rainforest, up to 2500 m.

Status : The species is protected by law in most of its range but remains endangered because of deforestation and local hunting.
