Notes : 13 other subspecies known. A recent revision could limit the number of subspecies to three. Javan population could be elevated to full species status.
Identification
Adults can grow to a body length of 53 cm, tail length of 66 cm and weight of 2.5 kg. Fairly small civet with very long tail. Coloration olive-brown with three longitudinal lines on back. Black feet, white throat, black head with white markings.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in south Thailand, Malaysia and possibly Sumatra. Species found from Myanmar and Vietnam to Java, Sumatra and Borneo. Mostly found in primary forests, rarely secondary growth, to 1500 meters.

Status : The species has a broad range but is dependant on primary forests which is source of concern with deforestation. Some populations endangered.
