Identification
Adults can grow to a body length of 45 cm, tail length of 30 cm and weight up to 4000 g. Fairly large mongoose with thick yellow tail. Grey-brown fur with yellow throat and white cheek line. Subspecies very grizzled with no cheek line.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Palawan and in the Calamian Islands, Philippines. The species is also found on Borneo and Sumatra. Lives in primary and secondary rainforests, also plantations, to 1200 m.

Status : The species is widely distributed within its range but could be vulnerable to habitat loss and locally to hunting, especially in Philippines.
