Identification
23 cm body length, weight up to 400 g. Smallest of all mongooses. Small round ears. Face, breast, belly and ears rufous, rest of body darker brown.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Ethiopia and Sudan to Malawi (North-East Africa). The species can also be found further south to Angola and Mozambique. Lives mostly in savannahs, including tree and bushy savannahs, rarely in forests.

Status : This species has a wide range and occurs in large densities in some areas. It’s unlikely to be threatened soon.
