Identification
Body length of 90 cm, tail length of 49 cm, weight of 14 kg. Large fox with large dark ears and long very bushy tail. Coloration is rufous with white lips (black markings), chin, breast and tail tip. Legs and feet are often black.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in eastern USA. The species is found in most of Canada and USA (except south-west), Europe, north Africa and most of Asia. Found from tundra to desert, including grasslands, forests and in cities.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a huge range and remains common to abundant although it is often persecuted. Some central Asian subspecies are endangered.
