Identification
Body length of 155 cm, tail length of 97 cm, weight of 72 kg. Unmistakable. Large but slender body, fairly small head. Long bushy tail. North American subspecies are grey-beige to light brown with white belly, breast and snout.
Range and habitat
Subspecies in north America. This species occurs from north-west Canada and west USA to most of south America. Also in Florida. Lives in forests, grasslands and shrublands with rocky outcrops and hills, to 4000 m.

Status : This species has a large range but many populations are declining or close to extinction because of hunting, persecution and habitat loss.
