Identification
This is one of the smallest leopard subspecies, with rusty-red to yellowish coloration fading on sides and small rosette-shaped markings set very close to one another. High occurrence of fully black specimens as with most subspecies living in forest environments.

Range and habitat
This subspecies was found from south China to Peninsular Malaysia, now likely only in Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia. Species occurs in Africa, western and southeast Asia. Occurs in evergreen and deciduous dipterocarp forests.

IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has been extirpated from many parts of its range because of habitat loss, poaching (especially indiscriminate snaring). No captive breeding program established at this time. This subspecies is now one of the most threatened because of habitat loss and hunting.
