Identification
Body length of 85 cm, tail length of 31 cm, weight up to 12 kg, males heavier than females. Large head with long round ears and black ear tufts. Short tail with black tip. Fur yellowish-beige with black stripes on leg and dark hair tips.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in South-East Asia, from Myanmar to Vietnam. Species found from India and Sri Lanka to the Himalayas, west to Turkey and Egypt. Lives in open forests, woodlands, humid grasslands, savannas, deserts, to 4100 m.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species’ preference for open grassland habitats makes it very vulnerable from habitat loss, especially in South East Asia and India.
