Identification
Body length of 280 cm, shoulder height up to 150 cm, weight of 725 kg. Very large bear with concave face profile. This subspecies is one of the largest. Its fur is usually darker brown than other brown bears, sometimes nearly black.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Siberia, north Korea, north-east China and Hokkaido island in Japan. Species found in Alaska, Canada, north USA, Europe and most of north and central Asia. Lives in forest, grassland tundra, alpine habitats and semi-deserts.

Status : This species has a very large range and is protected and safe in some areas. In Europe and Asia, many populations are on the verge of extinction.
