Identification
Adults can reach 10 cm. Global coloration of back and flanks bright red-brown, white belly. Snout and upper back with blue stripes. Black spot on pectoral fin base with blue circle. Flanks and tail with blue-white spots. Orange tail fin.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from East Africa and Gulf of Oman (excluding the Red Sea) to the Andaman Sea and western Indonesia. Lives in tide pools and other shallow reef areas, to 25 m.

Status : The species is locally abundant. However its dependence on algae beds and coral reefs could lead to local declines because of habitat loss.
