Identification
Very small species reaching to 7 cm in length but usually less. Concave forehead and upper back, small mouth. Skin shows tuft-like projections. Coloration is beige to brown with numerous white stripes, bands and thin lines.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in western Pacific Ocean area, from Ryukyu islands and the Philippines to Great Barrier reef and New Caledonia. Lives in shallow coral reefs with abundant soft corals, down to 12 meters.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is strongly associated with coral reefs but, so far, it seems not to be too impacted by their decline. Rarely collected for the trade.
