Identification
Triangular box-shaped body. Elevated ridge on back with at least two visible spines, first one always higher than back one. Coloration yellow-beige with honeycomb-like markings, often with blue spots, sometimes forming lines.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from east Africa to south Japan and New Caledonia. Found in seagrass areas of coral reefs, muddy bays, estuaries, often with large remote sponges.

Status : The species has a large range but remains poorly studied and often confused with Tetrosomus gibbosus. Caught for trade and dried. Populations and habitat are not monitored.
