Identification
Adults grow to 35 cm in length. Rectangular shaped body with sharp ridges on each sides, top and bottom. Elongated rostrum. Coloration beige to grey with bluish edges to each scales, irregular presence of clumps of dark dots on scales.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from East Africa to Indonesia, north to South Japan, south to northern Australia. Lives around rubble and sandy substrates around coral reefs, from 35 to 50 m deep.

Status : This species has a large range but is generally uncommon. Possibly locally threatened by loss of habitat and overcollection (less of a problem).
