Identification
This species grows to a maximum length of 88 cm, most often around 50 cm. Large head with curved forehead. High back profile with small dorsal and anal fins. Large tail fin with yellow-white edge to lower lobe. Black dots on flanks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from East and South Africa to Marquesas islands, north to Ryukyu islands, south to Australia. Lives in lagoons and seaward reefs, sometimes rivers, to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species has large range and within its distribution lye a number of protected areas. It is occasionally caught for food but this isn’t a threat.
