Identification
Adults can reach 17.5 cm but are generally around 8 cm long. Long snout, small knob-like warts on sides of head and flanks. Coloration yellow to light brown with black dots on flanks and faint wavy clear lines on sides of head.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Atlantic Ocean, from North Carolina to Bahamas and Bermuda, south to Santa Catarina (Brazil). Found around coral reefs and floating sargassum, down to 55 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is probably declining as a result of habitat loss and over-collection but its status is still unclear and needs reassessment.
