Identification
The species grows to 2.55 m in length for a maximum weight of about 34 kg. Relatively slender-bodied shark with fairly long snout. Coloration brown-grey, whiter on belly. Pectoral and tail fins with broad black edge and lower extremities.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Madagascar to Tuamoto islands, north to southern China, south to Northern Australia. Lives in continental and insular shelves, often near reefs, down to 1000 m.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is widespread but is often caught by fisheries. Some populations are declining alarmingly and are on the verge of extinction.
