Identification
The species can reach a total length of 70 cm. Similar to A. erdmanni but with much more spotting. Coloration from reddish brown to grey with numerous small black spots sometimes forming lines and conspicuous white spots all over body.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Pakistan and India to Indonesia and New Guinea, north to Philippines and southern Japan. Lives in inshore coral reefs, often found in cracks and crevices.

Status : The species is often targeted by fisheries and caught for the trade within its range. It is also threatened by habitat destruction on a global scale.
