Identification
The species grows to a disk width of 141 cm, total length of 350 cm. Disk nearly round with slightly triangular snout. Coloration dark grey to yellow-brown, back covered with white flecks. Tail white behind sting. Ventral surface blotched.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from the Red Sea to India and Maldives, Andaman Islands, to Solomon Islands and Micronesia. Lives in mangroves, sand and rubble areas on continental shelf, to 85 m deep.

Status : The species is under very severe threat from overfishing and habitat loss. Its occurrence in shallow waters and low fecundity are very problematic.
