Identification
Adults can grow to 1,46 m in disk width and total length over 3 m. Long thin black tail with clear base and spine. No enlarged thorns along mid-disk and tail. Pale pink-brown to grey with dark disk edges. Two clear spots in front of eyes.

Range and habitat
The species lives in the Indo-Pacific area, patchily, from Persian Gulf and east Africa to south Japan, north Australia and central Pacific Islands. Found above sandy bottoms and coral rubble, from coast to 200 m deep.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is threatened by overexploitation by local fisheries, particularly in Eastern Asia and Arafura sea. Gill plate trade is a serious threat.
