Identification
Adults can reach a maximum disk width of 61 cm for a weight of 4.9 kg. Disk is broadly rounded on sides, snout is elongated and triangular. Coloration is beige-brown, lighter on disk sides and white on underside.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in North-east Atlantic ocean from Shakespeare Bay (USA to Gulf of Mexico. Also occurs in big rivers flowing to Atlantic Ocean. Lives in coastal and estuarine waters, big rivers and occasionally lakes, to 25 m.

Status : The species has a wide range and remains globally common. It is regularly caught in fishnets and trawls but is often released alive once caught.
