Identification
Adults can reach up to 9 cm in length. Unmistakable. Two large ridges over eyes and on back. Large head with very small snout, stocky body. Coloration is orange-brown with darker and lighter bands forming a labyrinth pattern.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the northern Pacific ocean, from Japan to Alaska, then south to Santa Monica bay (California). Lives in intertidal areas over rocky and sandy bottoms, down to 165 meters.

Status : The species has a large range and seems to be very common in most of it, even at shallow depths.
