Identification
The species grows to 27 cm in length. Large head with big mouth and big eyes. Coloration mostly rose-red with dark edges on each flank, back and head scales. Black-edged dark vertical bands on flanks. Dark forehead and tail peduncle.

Range and habitat
This species is found in the north-west Pacific Ocean, from Japan and southern Korean peninsula to south China and north Vietnam coasts. Lives around sandy and muddy bottoms areas near rocky reefs, from 150 to 500 m.

Status : The species’ status hasn’t been assessed and is poorly known. The species is occasionally caught, mostly as bycatch.
