Identification
Reaches a maximal length of 25 cm. Big eyes, triangular head. One of the biggest species of its genus. Coloration bright dark red with white edges on each flank scales. White area on caudal peduncle and adjacent back. Red fins.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from Red Sea and East Africa (to South Africa) to Marshall Islands and French Polynesia, north to Japan, south to Australia. Lives in outer reefs, more rarely in lagoons, from 2 to 40 meters depth.
