Identification
Adults can reach a length of 24 cm. Venomous spines on dorsal fin. Concave forehead and long snout. Head and first third of body white with two large black areas on face and near gill coverts. Body bright yellow with black spot on flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from the Ryukyu islands to the Philippines, south to western Australia. Lives in outer coral reefs and lagoons with rich coral growth, down to 30 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : DATA DEFICIENT
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species’ dependence on rich coral growth makes it potentially vulnerable to habitat loss. Sometimes caught for trade. Status still poorly known.
