Identification
Straight forehead, fleshy yellow lips, small clear eyes. Coloration bluish-grey with network of wavy lines on lower half of flanks and dots on upper half of flanks. Dorsal, anal fins bright yellow.
Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific area, from Persian Gulf to Philippines, New Caledonia and Vanuatu. Found in shallow coastal waters, near coral and rocky reefs, sometimes in brackish lagoons.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a huge range. There are evidences of steep local declines and even population extirpation due to unsustainable catching for the trade and for food. Monitoring is needed.
