Notes : No subspecies known.
Identification
Large species, fleshy lips. Dusky blue to grey flanks, bluish belly with faint spots. Whole flanks covered with thin slightly wavy horizontal golden to yellow lines. Yellow blotch near tail.
Range and habitat
Indian Ocean, around southern India, Maldives and Sri Lanka. Found in coral reefs, sandstone reefs and often around seagrass beds where juveniles mostly live.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a fairly small range. It is overexploited for food in parts of it and declines have been noted. More monitoring is needed but species seems to still be locally common.
