Identification
The species grows to 1 meter in length. Coloration plain olivaceous to brown or grey brown, lighter on belly. Pectoral and caudal fins with white margins. Elongated straight horn protruding from forehead, almost at mouth level.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area from Red Sea and East Africa to south Japan and Lord Howe Island, east to Tuamoto, Hawaii and Marquesas Islands. Lives in shallow water areas and steep drop-offs, to 60 meters deep.

Status : The species is widespread and common but targeted by fisheries (for food and trade) in many parts of its range, especially Philippines.
