Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults can grow to 60 cm in length. Big yellow eyes. Fins black, elongated pectoral fins. Adults bluish, yellow on belly with find blue reticulations on upper back and head. Upper lip dark. Juveniles with upper back and head black.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from Ryukyu islands to Melanesia and north Australia. Range might be bigger and needs to be studied. Lives in outer reef slopes and channels, from 3 to 90 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread and often occurs deep, making it safer than other snappers from the pressure of fisheries.
