Identification
The species grows to 55 cm in length Fairly large head, straight forehead, moderately deep body. Coloration light purplish to yellowish brown. Broad yellow margin on gill-coverts, fins dusky yellow. White blotch on rear half of flanks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the northwest Pacific Ocean, from Japan to eastern and south China coasts, west to Hong Kong. Lives in corals and rocky reefs, down to at least 100 meters deep.

Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed. It has a fairly small range and occurs in areas with intense fishing pressure. Possibly threatened.
