Identification
The species grows to 80 cm in length for a weight of 11 kg. Large head, thick lips. Green tinge on head and back, blue tinge on belly. Fins with broad yellow edge. Thin wavy blue lines on face, light blue dots on flank scales.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from southern Red Sea and east Africa to the French Polynesia, north to south Japan, south to north Australia. Lives in various reefs and shallow inshore reef flats, down to 100 meters deep.

Status : The species has a huge range. It is locally vulnerable to overfishing and is occasionally fished using highly destructive techniques (explosives).
