Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
The species can reach 40 cm. Coloration yellow with five distinct dark-edged longitudinal relatively thin blue lines, two of them originating below eyes. Belly with less defined lines. Face quite long, straight forehead and with purplish color.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and South Africa to the Marquesas and Line Islands, north to south Japan, south to north Australia. Lives in coral reefs, in shallow lagoons and outer reef slopes, to 265 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread and has been successfully introduced around Hawaii. Major component of local fisheries in Asia, no declines reported so far.
