Identification
Large species growing to 150 cm in length for a weight of 8,7 kg. Fairly deep body, long steep forehead, large mouth with thick lips. Greenish-brown body turning to dark reddish. Two blue streaks across cheeks (often fading when adult).

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and east Africa to the Line Islands, north to south Japan, south to north Australia. Lives in mangroves, estuaries and lower reaches of rivers, coral reefs, to 120 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread but not numerous. Declines have been noted, they can be attributed to overfishing and to habitat loss as well.
