Identification
Adults can grow to 31 cm long. Coloration mostly light grey, turning white on belly. Yellowish tail fin, elongated black blotch on upper half of flanks. Blue lines on forehead, joining both eyes, often with dark area between the lines.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indian Ocean, from Red Sea and Persian Gulf to Mozambique coasts, east to Sri Lanka and India. Lives in inshore waters, in or near coral reefs, on soft bottoms, to 60 m deep.

Status : The species is common and widespread. It is locally targeted by fisheries but numbers caught remain too small to be a threat.
