Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
The species can grow to 75 cm in length. Terminal males have elongated tail fins and are mostly green and blue. Intermediate phase specimens are yellow to beige with darker back and 4 broad vertical blue bands. Blue-edged tail fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to Gulf of California and Ecuador, north to south Japan, south to Australia. Lives around slopes and drop-offs of lagoons and seaward reefs, to 90 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and occurs in a wide variety of habitats. It isn’t targeted by fisheries and only occasionally collected for the trade.
